Diploma in Bespoke Tailoring and Cutting - 10 Months

This modular programme runs annually from September to June and comprises of four specialised modules Pattern Drafting, Cloth Cutting, Fitting and Re-marking; Trouser and Waistcoat Making; and Coat/Jacket Making.

SRA’s training is focused on the traditional methods of soft-structured hand-craft tailoring and fitting in harmony with body shape for style, elegance and comfort.

The is a full time course leading to the Academy's own Diploma in Bespoke Tailoring and Cutting  based on the unique standards created by our Principal, Professor Andrew Ramroop. This course will cover a range of tailoring skills delivered in a modular form; each of the four modules focusing in detail on key aspects of tailoring and cutting.

Course Content

Students will be expected to complete one three-piece suit by the end of the course. Emphasis is on the technical and practical processes involved in the hand production of tailored garments,including:

  • Extensive range of hand stitches

  • Using sewing machines and equipment

  • Under-pressing and shrinking

  • Constructing canvases

  • Making various styles of pockets

  • Block pattern construction

  • Trouser Making - various styles

  • Waistcoat making

  • Laying of patterns on cloth

  • Jacket making

  • Cutting and Fitting

  • Constructing baste fittings

  • Workshop practice

  • Bespoke Master Patterns

  • Figuration

Course Delivery

SRA’s training programme is delivered in customised training facilities on the premises of Maurice Sedwell. Ltd, 19 Savile Row, London. The instructors are all experienced bespoke tailors, who have trained and worked under the Academy’s Principle Andrew Ramroop OBE.

SRA will only admit a maximum of twelve students for each course to enable each trainee to receive a high degree of individual coaching from their instructor.

Qualifications

Trainees who complete all of the modules to the required standards will be awarded a Bespoke Tailor’s Certificate from the Savile Row Academy.

2019 Dates

The next course will run from the 10th September 2019 until the 3rd July 2020. The classes will be delivered on Tuesdays to Fridays. Students will also be permitted to use the classrooms for unsupervised practice on Mondays and Saturdays.

Cost

The cost of the course is £16,900 and covers all materials and equipment required for completion of the course.

We are unable to assist with visa procurement for students from abroad but past students were able to attend our courses on a visitor’s visa. We are also unable to offer any financial support, apprenticeships or bursaries or access to places to live.
